24/6/44. The frigate HMS Nith became the first (and almost certainly only) Allied ship to suffer major damage from a Luftwaffe ‘Mistel’ composite aircraft launched against shipping off Normandy. Nith was near-missed, with the resulting explosion causing significant blast and shrapnel damage. 🧵1/9
