The show has perfectly good genuine moments. But 30 percent of every episode is skeet shooting with references. All variations on, "Oh [reference]? BORING STUPID BOOOO!!"
I'd wager normal Star Trek is consistently funnier. Only room for one joke per episode but at least it always lands.
