I liked 5e pretty well. I think the bits of it that have come to annoy everyone got to me fast. I think 5e took a lot of lessons from the OSR reaction to 3/4e and was improved because of it. It ended up somewhere between B/X and Pathfinder which worked well for a lot of people.
